Responsibility, Accountability and Legal Liability of Paraprofessionals

"The move towards registration of veterinary paraprofessionals (e.g. "veterinary nurses") in both New Zealand and England raises issues for a number of associated organizations, but particularly the paraprofessionals themselves. Accompanying increased responsibility there is likely to be a parallel increase in legal liability which needs to be carefully addressed, from the perspective of veterinary para-professionals as a distinct group, to avoid putting the paraprofessionals themselves at greater legal risk"

(Ian Robertson, Director of International Animal Law, in a presentation to Veterinary Paraprofessionals in England, 2009).
